How To ... covered notebooks

Earlier this week I showed you a covered notebook I created. The project is so super simple I thought paired with a gift card this would make a great teacher's gift.

 
Supplies Needed:

• 5x8 notebook
• 2 pieces of chipboard cut 8x4 and 8x2
• your favorite adhesive
• ruler
• embossing burnisher (I use this tool to make score lines)
• exacto or scissors
• 2 pieces of your favorite patterned papers each cut 8x12 (not shown above)
• optional adhesive velcro to use as a closure (not shown above)
• other goodies to dress up your book let your creativity flow

Starting on the left glue patterned paper to the back of the notebook as shown in the photos above. Note I didn't cover the whole back (we'll get to this later).

  

I pretty much use my embossing burnishing tool to make score lines. To make the folds score 2 lines using the fine tip of the embossing burnishing tool and a ruler then fold, this will create the left cover flap.

 

Adhere the larger chipboard and score the outside edge as seen in the photo above.Sorry I chose to work with a kraft based patterned paper and the chipboard doesn't show up well in these photos.

 

Fold over and trim the excess patterned paper. Then adhere the the inside cover as seen in the photo above.

 

Repeat the process on the right side. This time cover the entire back of the notebook for a finished look.
 

For a final touch I added a decorative white border punched from a piece of scrap cardstock. Now your book is covered and it's your turn to add your own touches. I also added a small piece of adhesive velcro to the inside to act as a closure.

My final project is super simple I went with the less is more approach cause that's how I roll. I really wanted a wide ribbon for a dramatic look but I didn't have any on hand so I decided to sew 2 pieces together and when that wan't wide enough I kept adding ribbon. The final tie I made is 4 pieces of ribbon sewn together. I am totally hooked on this look ;). I trimmed the edges with pinking shears.
